Small Circle of Friends
Look outside the shield wall, there's a horseman being slain.
They've dragged him from his saddle, and they're bashing out his brain.
Maybe we should sally forth, and try to ease his pain,
But itÆs bad to break the shield wall, and besides he's just a Dane.
And it really wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small circle of friends.
Fighting in a melee is as dangerous as hell,
They're coming at you from in front, and from behind as well.
Now my melee partner has suddenly been stunned;
I'd like to stay and help him, but the odds are one-to-one.
And it really wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small company of friends.
The castle walls are being stormed, they're breaking in the keep;
The princess on the tower is considering a leap.
Surely if we hurry we can split the foe in twain,
But it's getting close to dinner and besides it looks like rain.
And it really wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small castle of friends.
There's our noble leader, he's surrounded by the foe,
They've grabbed his horse's bridle, and now they've laid him low.
As vassals it's our duty, to drive the foe away,
But we're really rather tired, and it's muddy out that way.
And it really wouldn't interest anybody
Outside of a small household of friends.
