AXING MacEANRUIG

By Sir William the Lucky

Once a jolly warrior strode across the battlefield,
Cutting down hundreds while leading the fray,
And he sang as he strode, this reaper of the multitudes,
"I've come for axing MacEanruig today!"

Chorus:
Axing MacEanruig,
Axing MacEanruig,
"I've come for axing MacEanruig today!"
And he sang as he strode, this reaper of the multitudes,
"I've come for axing MacEanruig today!"

Down went opponents, fated for to perish there,
On came the warrior, chanting his lay.
And he sang as he slew another dozen men or more,
"I've come for axing MacEanruig today!"

Ch.

Forth strode the great Dukes, doughty warriors every one,
No mean opponents in swirling melee,
And in wonder they cried as they died beneath the blazing sun:
"He's come for axing MacEanruig today!"

Ch.

Then did MacEanruig sally forth with mace in hand,
His manner was fierce and his mood it was fey,
And he asked as he came upon the field to make his stand,
"Who's come for axing MacEanruig today?"

Ch.

Cold blows the wind that whips across the battlefield,
Dim is the sun as it sets in the bay,
And a voice still is heard to float across the tourney field:
"I came for axing MacEanruig today!"

Ch.

Tune: 'Waltzing Matilda'

<This song and the one which follows were both started in
May for the Lists for the Queen's Favor. The fight between us
started with both of us singing our respective versions and
giggling a lot. Sir Steven got in the first blow, missing by two
feet, and Sir William cried 'Strike one!" However he was
laughing too hard to take advantage and Sir Steven eventually
won. While we generally avoid references to individuals, it is
possible to write them in certain circumstances.>
